April 28 - World Day for Safety and Health at Work
On April 28, as is traditional in the Vitebsk region, as well as throughout the republic, large-scale events are held to draw attention to safety and labor protection issues within the framework of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
In the Vitebsk region, labor safety issues are given unconditional priority. Ensuring the rights and guarantees of employees in the field of labor protection, creating conditions for work that bring satisfaction to the citizen and benefit to society, is one of the most important directions of the state's social policy.
To date, a developed legislative framework in the field of labor protection has been created, which takes into account existing positive international experience and many years of practice in regulating these issues at the national level.
It allows for a comprehensive solution to safety issues in the workplace, creating the necessary conditions for the realization of an employee's right to work in safe working conditions, as well as for the protection of their rights and receipt of appropriate compensation in the event of a work-related accident or occupational disease.
The entire complex of measures in the field of labor protection, from the adoption of legislation and the development of labor protection management systems to state supervision and public control, is aimed at solving one main task – reducing occupational injuries and occupational diseases.
As a result of the measures taken by interested parties in this issue, certain positive results have been achieved:
if in 2000 the incidence of severe injuries at enterprises in the region was 166 cases, then by the end of 2019 – less than 100.
Since the beginning of 2020, a 10 percent reduction in occupational injuries overall has been ensured.
The incidence of occupational diseases has been the lowest in the republic for several years.
