July 3 unites people thanks to the significance of Belarus's liberation from the brown plague - a scientist
July 3, Vitebsk / Sergei Kochetov - BELTA /. Independence Day consolidates society primarily due to the semantic content of this holiday, associated with the liberation of Belarus from the brown plague. This opinion was expressed in a conversation with a BELTA correspondent by Veniamin Kosmach, Director of the Vitebsk Branch of the International Institute of Labor and Social Relations, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, who, along with university students, is taking part in the festive events.
July 3 has a special significance for all residents of the country, as it is associated with the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. "Such a meaning of the holiday is deeply symbolic and acts as a consolidating factor in our society," believes Veniamin Kosmach. This is even noticeable from the special atmosphere of solemnity and spiritual uplift that reigned in the university auditoriums during the preparation of students, teachers and staff of the university for participation in the celebrations. "According to my observations, our colleagues from many educational institutions in the city also prepared for the holiday with the same uplifted mood," the director shared his impressions. On this day, the university staff address their congratulations, first of all, to the veterans of war and labor.
The aspiration of every nation to form itself politically and state-wise is a common historical trend. "Our history is rich in examples when the Belarusian people made attempts to gain state independence, acting as a consolidating force, for example, during the times of the Principality of Polotsk or the Grand Duchy of Lithuania," said Veniamin Kosmach. Gaining state independence in the 20th century became another historical chance for our people, which Belarusians took full advantage of. "I have no doubt: today the common aspiration of our people for independence and the policy of the state have merged on a solid foundation, which can reliably ensure state sovereignty," the scientist added. -0-
