February 26, Minsk / Anna Gromyko - BELTA /. 35 years ago, on February 26, 1976, the district local history museum was opened in Postavy. It is located in a building that is an architectural monument of the 18th century. The museum has seven exhibition halls and one exhibition hall. The exposition of the nature department is made in the form of dioramas (picturesque paintings curved in a semicircle), which symbolize windows into the natural world of the Postavy region. The flora and fauna of the region are shown here, numerous stuffed birds and animals, collections of insects and herbariums are exhibited, and a large mineralogical collection is also presented. The period when the Postavy region was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania is told by medieval maps, engravings, pottery, estate plans, court records, ancient books, coin hoards, items of palace interior and everyday life. A special place is given to materials about the Tiesenhausen counts, who owned Postavy in the 18th-19th centuries. A separate section in the Postavy District Local History Museum is dedicated to the period 1921-1939, when the Postavy region was part of Poland. The section dedicated to the Great Patriotic War contains materials about the activities of partisans and underground fighters in the district, their personal belongings, as well as a homemade mortar, a telegraph machine, and a captured German radio station are exhibited. The ethnographic hall replicates the interior of a peasant hut of the 1930s-1940s, where painted and woven carpets, embroidery, ceramics, items made of willow and straw, copper utensils and other household items typical for the region are presented, as well as products of local craftsmen, a unique collection of antique decorative knitted and embroidered nets. The Postavy District Local History Museum conducts exhibition activities, participates in regional and international conferences, and the international festival of folk music "Zvenyat tsimbaly i garmon". -0-
