The 500th anniversary of Belarusian printing should be at the core of the concept for the Day of Writing in Polotsk
The Day of Belarusian Written Language - 2017 should become a landmark event. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, Natalia Kochanova, at a meeting of the national organizing committee for the preparation and holding of the Day of Belarusian Written Language in Polotsk.
According to Natalia Kochanova, next year's Day of Belarusian Written Language is special because it is the year of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian printing and the 1155th anniversary of the city of Polotsk. These two events should be fundamental to the concept of the Day of Belarusian Written Language, the vice-premier said. Polotsk is hosting the Day of Belarusian Written Language for the third time. Landmark events have become decisive in choosing the venue for the event.
Today, at a meeting of the organizing committee in Minsk, tasks will be defined for departments on the preparation of the large-scale celebration, which is proposed to be opened on Saturday, September 2. "It is not entirely correct when, having opened the holiday on Sunday morning, we close it in the evening. It should be a prolonged event," believes Natalia Kochanova.
The celebration, which will last for two days, will be attended not only by local residents but also by residents of Novopolotsk and many guests. The key concept of the holiday should be prepared in January next year, the vice-premier said. The holiday should be landmark and memorable for both citizens and guests.
Active work on the preparation of festive events is expected from Belarusian writers. They will have meetings with readers, in work collectives, with youth, to talk about the history of the country, the Belarusian language, and changes in the sphere of culture.
