80 athletes from all over the Vitebsk region demonstrated their skills in the regional ski orienteering competitions.
National teams of various age categories from the districts and cities of the Dvina region, educational institutions, and sports clubs took part in the competition. The competition program included individual and team completion of a distance of more than one and a half kilometers and a two-stage relay. Athletes had to navigate the "web" of snow tracks and find control points using a map. Athletes even had to read the map while moving, observe the terrain, and match the required points with its fragments. In addition, the race required independent route selection and its flawless execution. Therefore, participants had to pay special attention to their technical skills.
An additional difficulty in overcoming the required distance lay in performing sharp maneuvers, as well as in navigating uneven terrain on descents and ascents. All this had to be done at a high competitive speed.
Based on the results of the two-day marathon, the team from the Zheleznodorozhny district of Vitebsk took third place, Orsha took "silver," and the Pervomaisky district of the northern capital became the absolute champion. It should be noted that a team will be selected from the top three leaders to represent the region at the republican championship in Mogilev from February 22-24.
