Vitebsk region farmers are preparing for grain harvesting

In parallel with the ongoing seasonal field work, Vitebsk region farmers are preparing for the most crucial summer campaign – the grain harvest. This year, it is necessary to harvest 353,930 hectares of grain and leguminous crops and 58,231 hectares of rapeseed. The harvest outlook is optimistic, provided the weather cooperates. Last year, the region achieved a record grain yield for the entire history of the region – 1,440,000 tons, due to increased productivity.

As reported by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee, preparations for the harvest are underway in all areas – machinery is being prepared, and the issue of providing labor is being addressed. To carry out the campaign within optimal deadlines, a total of 7,225 machine operators are planned to be involved. Currently, 6,256 are working in the farms. Traditionally, the personnel shortage will be covered by the active assistance of industrial enterprises (670 people) and other organizations from regional and district centers.

In order to carry out the harvest within optimal deadlines, achieve high labor productivity and quality of field work, the activities of trade union committees of agro-industrial complex workers will also be intensified. According to the resolution of the presidium of the regional organization of the agro-industrial complex workers' trade union, the front-runners of the harvest will be awarded with letters of appreciation, cash bonuses, valuable gifts, and souvenirs up to three base amounts.
