Vitebsk region farmers are switching to night shifts to accelerate harvesting
August 8, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Farmers in the Vitebsk region are switching to night work. This decision was made by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, with the aim of increasing the pace of the harvesting campaign, the ideology department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
Starting today, combine crews will work until 2 a.m. This mode has been tested in previous years, so people are ready to switch to it, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee noted. Taking into account the decision made, a three-shift work schedule is being organized.
Currently, the average pace of harvesting grain and leguminous crops in the region is from 3.5% to 4% of the area per day. The organization of night harvesting will allow farmers to increase the pace of work and reduce the harvesting period, the regional executive committee is confident.
As of the morning of August 8, 228 thousand hectares of grain crops have been mowed in the Vitebsk region, or 46.7% of the area. The total harvest with an average yield of 32.4 centners per hectare amounted to 740 thousand tons of grain. The highest yield - about 40 centners per hectare - is still maintained in the Verkhnedvinsk, Orsha and Chashniksky districts. In most districts, it is 30-35 centners per hectare. Farmers in the Braslavsky, Rossonsky and Sennensky districts are harvesting less than 30 centners per hectare.
