Vitebsk region farmers have passed the halfway mark of the harvest campaign
As of the morning of August 7, 49.4% of all areas in the region had been harvested. The 50% mark was overcome by the agricultural workers by noon today. Unstable weather significantly influences their work, so every favorable moment is used to the maximum to achieve a productive result. Harvesting is progressing at the fastest pace in Verkhnedvinsk (68.4% of areas harvested), Sharkovshchina (60.5%), Chashniki (59.7%), and Miory (61.7%) districts. Less than half has been harvested in Ushachi, Shumilino, and Senno districts.
Currently, the average daily harvesting rate is 13-14 thousand hectares, or about 4% of the areas. The total grain yield in the region has reached 547.9 thousand tons with an average yield of 31.4 centners per hectare.
The most productive fields this year are in the Orsha district, where farmers harvest 40 centners per hectare. Verkhnedvinsk yields 36 centners of grain per hectare, while Polotsk, Vitebsk, and Postavy districts yield 35 centners per hectare.
Along with grain harvesting, other important agricultural works are progressing: flax pulling, harvesting of second-crop grasses, and plowing for winter cereals continue.
