Farmers in the Vitebsk region plan to start fieldwork after March 20

Agrarians of the Vitebsk region plan to start spring field work in the last decade of March, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee reported.

"If the weather does not present surprises, then after March 20, we will try to carry out selective plowing. The adjustment of equipment is currently being completed, and mineral fertilizers are being accumulated, - the committee noted. - Elite farms, of which there are 12 in the region, are carrying out seed treatment and selling elite seeds to farms. In total, about 3.5 thousand tons of elite seed material are planned to be supplied to agricultural organizations."

As for winter crops, specialists note good preservation of grain – losses did not exceed 10%, and high losses of rapeseed – the oilseed crop in the region will have to be re-sown on approximately half of the areas. Almost all districts of the region are currently sowing perennial grasses. Work has been completed on 18 thousand hectares, with a plan of 97 thousand hectares. The total sown area of agricultural crops in the region will be 846 thousand hectares this year. The grain group will occupy 398.5 thousand hectares, or 47.1% of the structure. 106 thousand hectares are allocated for rapeseed, 197.4 thousand hectares for perennial grasses, and 82.7 thousand hectares for corn.
