Farmers in the Vitebsk region have started sowing vegetables and planting potatoes, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee reported.
"Farmers in the region have started sowing vegetable crops, specialized farms have begun planting potatoes. Sowing of all spring crops is currently underway in the region," the committee noted.
Overall, the region has completed 37.8% of the spring sowing plan. Early grain and leguminous crops have been sown on more than 60% of the area, and flax sowing work has been completed by 23.5%. As for potatoes and corn, the work on these crops has been completed by 7.6% and 2.6% respectively. In total, it is planned that potatoes will occupy about 3 thousand hectares, and corn - about 80 thousand hectares. The total sown area of agricultural crops in the region this year will be 846 thousand hectares.
