A. Jacobson: Alignment of Belarusian food prices with Russian ones is necessary

August 11, Braslav District / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Harmonizing Belarusian prices for basic food products with Russian ones is a necessity. This point of view was expressed today at a meeting with the labor collective of SPC "Mayak Braslavsky" by the Chairman of the Committee of State Control of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Yakobson, BELTA correspondent reports.

In neighboring Russia and Ukraine, prices for dairy and meat products are several times higher than in Belarus. According to Alexander Yakobson, this has led to Belarusian goods being massively bought up by enterprising Russians and Belarusians and exported outside the country. There are no borders or customs barriers in the way of this "business." "The country's budget is being exported with the products, as milk and meat production in the country is subsidized from the budget," Alexander Yakobson explained.

In his opinion, an increase in prices for basic foodstuffs in Belarus and bringing them to the Russian level is inevitable. "People need to understand, we have no other way: it is necessary to equalize prices to the level of neighboring regions, but there should be no sharp increases, gradually, by 3-5% per month," said Alexander Yakobson.

At the same time, the head of the control department is convinced that with rising prices, salaries should also increase. "Salaries should grow on the condition that everyone at their workplace conscientiously fulfills their duties, increases productivity, and reduces costs," he emphasized.

Chairman of the CSC Alexander Yakobson visited the Braslav District today on a working trip, where he familiarized himself with the development of agricultural production, the progress of the harvesting campaign, met with the labor collectives of SPC "Mayak Braslavsky" and the branch of RUPP "Vitebskhlebprom" - Braslavsky Bakery, and answered workers' questions.-0-
