The event dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the Vitebsk animal shelter will help its residents find a new home

The Vitebsk animal shelter for stray animals will celebrate its fifth anniversary and World Animal Day on August 20 with the "Kind Heart - Loyal Friend" campaign, reported Natalya Zubova, head of the section at the "Spetsavtobaza Vitebska" enterprise.

"Our shelter will turn 5 years old on August 16, but we decided to move the celebration to a weekend day, especially since August 20 is World Animal Day. We have prepared an interesting entertainment program for our guests. There will be a soap bubble show, face painting, a theatrical and musical performance, and other entertainment. And we are hoping for birthday gifts: pet food, leashes, collars, medications, warm clothes for bedding, and financial assistance. After all, the shelter, in general, lives on donations. But the greatest gift for us would be if someone decides to take one of our four-legged residents into their family. To do this, you need to have your passport with you," noted Natalya Zubova.

Currently, 140 dogs, 25 puppies, 29 cats, and 5 kittens have found temporary shelter in the enclosures and cages of the shelter. Some of the young whiskered brethren are taken in by volunteers for temporary care. Animals end up at the shelter in various ways: some are brought in by animal control, and others are abandoned by irresponsible owners. This is the last hope for lost animals, for injured stray dogs and cats that compassionate citizens cannot afford to treat themselves. Staff veterinarians and veterinary technicians visit the local residents for several hours a week, providing treatment, vaccinations, and sterilization. The latter is mandatory, as one of the main functions of the shelter is to reduce the number of stray animals.

"The shelter is located at: Starobabinichsky tract, 29. We hope for many guests, even though it's on the outskirts of Vitebsk. But you don't have to wait for the holiday. To help us, as well as to meet the furry residents of the shelter and choose a pet, you can visit any day," added Natalya Zubova. World Animal Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of August. In various countries, charity concerts and auctions are organized in connection with this event to raise funds.

funds, and educational work is also carried out to reduce the number of stray cats and dogs and to increase the responsibility of owners for their pets.
