The "Lily of Friendship" campaign will be the central event of Novopolotsk's cultural life in 2018
Novopolotsk has taken over the baton of the cultural capital of Belarus from Bobruisk. Before the start of the solemn ceremony, journalists asked the head of the city about planned events and whether there would be new projects. "The awarding of the cultural capital status coincided with the city's anniversary - Novopolotsk will celebrate its 60th anniversary. We will try to combine these events as much as possible. The central event of this year will be the "Lily of Friendship" series of events. The event will be held by our teams in cooperation with twin cities. We plan to maximize international cooperation to popularize our national culture and, by attracting guests from other countries to the city, to get acquainted with the culture and traditions of different peoples," shared Dmitry Demidov.
The solemn opening of the republican event "Cultural Capital of Belarus" took place today in Novopolotsk with the participation of the Minister of Culture, Yuri Bondar, who presented the Chairman of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee with a special certificate and congratulated the residents and guests of the city on this significant event. As a gift from Novopolotsk, the minister and other honored guests received souvenirs - lilies made by local craftsmen (the white lily flower is a symbol of Novopolotsk). Festive events are taking place at several venues in Novopolotsk.
The Center of Culture is hosting the "Skarbonka Tvorchastsi" exhibition-presentation, where cultural institutions have showcased their achievements. The best creative groups are performing on the stage of the Palace of Culture of OJSC "Naftan", where the official opening of the event took place. The republican event "Cultural Capital of Belarus" is being held for the ninth time. It is noteworthy that the oil city became the second city in the Vitebsk region to receive the status of cultural capital; in 2010, Polotsk was its holder. The status of cultural capital was awarded to Gomel (2011), Nesvizh (2012), Mogilev (2013), Grodno (2014), Brest (2015), Molodechno (2016), Bobruisk (2017).
