Today, on the day of the celebration of the 1147th anniversary of the city, the Eternal Flame will be lit here at the "Liberators of Polotsk" monument, and the "Flame of Victory" campaign will conclude. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Deputy Chairman of the Polotsk City Executive Committee, Nikolai Ilyushenok. The torch was lit from the Eternal Flame on Victory Square in Minsk. It was delivered to Polotsk by participants of the Polotsk-Minsk-Polotsk cycling race. More than a dozen amateur cyclists, the youngest of whom is 16 years old and the oldest is 65, set off for the capital a few days ago to lay flowers at the monument on Victory Square and bring a particle of the eternal flame to Polotsk, the interlocutor said. Today, the torch will be delivered to the ancient city. The best citizens have been entrusted to carry it through the streets, and then light it at the monument in the center of Polotsk. Festive events will be held in the city throughout the day. Young musicians and mature performers will perform on city stages. Folk craft masters will set up a colorful fair. The honored collective of the Republic of Belarus, the exemplary orchestra of the Armed Forces, has prepared a musical gift for Polotsk residents and tourists. According to tradition, the holiday will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display, after which Polotsk will turn into a "Dancing City" - under this name, a show will take place that will unite all dance lovers. As Nikolai Ilyushenok noted, along with Polotsk, its birthday is also celebrated by twin cities: representatives of ten of them have come to the ancient city. -0-
