A tobacco cessation campaign will be held in the Vitebsk region, and the funds raised will be directed to the treatment of oncological diseases

Currently, cancer ranks third among the causes of mortality in the Dvina region. As is known, one of the factors contributing to the development of malignant neoplasms is bad habits, particularly smoking. To encourage the public to take their health more seriously, healthcare professionals, in conjunction with the industry trade union, have decided to hold a volunteer work day on their professional holiday and direct the funds earned during it towards the development of cancer services in the Dvina region, as reported by Yuri Derkach, Head of the Healthcare Department of the Regional Executive Committee.

– All residents of the Vitebsk region can support this initiative, especially those who smoke. We urge them to spend a day without tobacco and direct the money they would have spent on cigarettes to the account of the oncology center, – noted Yuri Nikolaevich.

Medical Worker's Day is celebrated on June 15 this year.
