A rally in defense of life and family values will be held in Polotsk

An event in defense of life and family values will be held in Polotsk on June 1, Pavel Safronov, deputy director for educational work of the coordination center "ZaRozhdenie" of the Polotsk diocese, told a BELTA correspondent.

The event is timed to coincide with the International Children's Day and is called "Light a Candle". This can be done in a temporary church tent, which will be set up on Frantsisk Skorina Avenue near the city fountain. A prayer service for unborn children will be held here. Anyone can light a candle and pray at the icon "Bethlehem Infants". Volunteers will offer passers-by to tie green ribbons as a symbol of the birth of new life. In this way, Polotsk will try to draw attention to one of the most pressing problems of our time – the issue of abortion.

"Residents of the city will be able to light a candle free of charge at the icon, which will be brought to the center of Polotsk from the Pokrovsky Church. In addition, those who wish will have the opportunity to communicate with a priest, leave a note, and repent of the sin of abortion.

Representatives of the "ZaRozhdenie" center will give short lectures and demonstrate to Polotsk residents the exhibition "Save Those Taken to Death", which is also dedicated to the issue of abortion," said Pavel Safronov.

He emphasized that the "Light a Candle" event will be held in Polotsk with the blessing of Archbishop Feodosiy of Polotsk and Glubokoye. Earlier, similar events were held in Novopolotsk on January 11 – the day of remembrance of the Holy Innocents Martyrs of Bethlehem. The event is being held in Polotsk for the first time.

It is worth noting that the "ZaRozhdenie" center was organized through the joint efforts of the secular authorities of the Polotsk region and the Polotsk diocese with the aim of popularizing family values and overcoming the demographic crisis. Center specialists give lectures on the harm of abortions for high school students and first and second-year students of secondary vocational educational institutions. They hold events aimed at popularizing family values.
