Alexander Lukashenko: Belarus will be able to overcome the emerging difficulties, and the current year will be a turning point

Belarus will be able to overcome the emerging difficulties, and the current year will be a turning point in this regard. This was stated by the Head of State Alexander Lukashenko on April 16, when visiting the Transfiguration of the Lord Church in the town of Baran, Orsha district, on the occasion of Easter.

"We can do everything, and we will cope with these difficulties, which we have just talked about (difficulties mostly brought to our land), we will overcome them. We have no other choice. And this year will be a turning point," the President stated.

Alexander Lukashenko thanked all the clergy and Metropolitan Pavel for the work they are doing in the name of the Belarusian people and their neighbors.

While in the Orthodox church, the Head of State proposed, on behalf of the largest religious denomination in Belarus, to send greetings to Catholic Christians, who are also celebrating Easter on this day. "This is truly a great and bright holiday, no matter how they try to overshadow it in our history. Even in recent history. They failed. Because the entire people, from young to old, have always awaited these days with the greatest respect and sincerity," the President noted.

In turn, Archbishop Dmitry of Vitebsk and Orsha emphasized the importance of preserving true values and turning to faith, especially considering the many difficulties occurring in the world. He thanked Alexander Lukashenko and the country's leadership as a whole for their efforts to maintain good relations and cooperation between the state and the church, as well as for preserving peace and harmony in Belarus.

The Head of State lit a candle and presented the church with an icon of "Jesus Christ the Almighty" as a gift. The President was presented with an icon of Alexander Nevsky as a gift.

After visiting the church, Alexander Lukashenko had a warm conversation with local residents, talking about the development prospects of the entire Orsha district.

"You probably know, sometimes you see that when I come, I always look at these beautiful places. They are not alien to me. I know them very well."

I am aware of the problems that are developing here – Bolbasovo, Baran, Orsha – in this region. This is one of the most difficult regions in Belarus in terms of employment and population engagement. This should not be the case,” the President said. “And in the near future, we will very seriously consider the issues of developing this region, especially these settlements, at the government meeting.”

“Once, this was one of the developed districts. Soviet strategic aviation was based here. But what happened, happened. And since then, I won't say we've done a lot, but we've tried to keep people busy somehow,” the Head of State noted.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, there are prospects for the development of small settlements in the Orsha district and Orsha itself. This applies to both the production sector, attracting investment, and housing construction, and transport infrastructure. “We will develop this region. And within a year or two, believe me, we will largely resolve the problems that exist today,” the President stated.

In this regard, Alexander Lukashenko also called for the activity of the citizens themselves: “We must get used to the fact that people should go to work. Not work to people, but as it is customary all over the world.”

The Head of State explained that attention should be paid to the development of small settlements, especially where there is good infrastructure. And by improving transport links, residents will be able to get to work in neighboring, larger settlements quickly enough.

“And I want to tell you publicly that the local bosses here are also moving very slowly. We will hold a government meeting here, on site. But by that time, you (the local leadership) should get moving,” Alexander Lukashenko remarked. As an example, he cited the fact that some facilities, still vacant since Soviet times, remain unused in places.

“It is not right that we cannot put the best, most beautiful places, convenient for people's lives, in order. I won't say they are not in order, but they should be even better, and people should have

here work. This is the main question that worries me. It's not that this is my homeland. My homeland today is all of Belarus. But this place deserves its development, because the infrastructure here is appropriate," the President emphasized.

"Believe me, we know how to do everything. Sometimes our people are not very active, they wait for something from the Lord, but the authorities also do not always move as they should. I admit this. Live long, have good health. All problems, believe me, we will solve," Alexander Lukashenko summarized.
