Alexander Subbotin: it is a great happiness when there is someone and something to protect
On this festive day, though not marked with a red color on the calendar, residents and guests of the city traditionally gather on Vitebsk's main square, Victory Square, to pay tribute to the fallen heroes and honor the living defenders. Representatives of regional and city authorities, public associations, heads of law enforcement agencies, enterprises, and organizations, veterans, and youth laid wreaths and flowers at the Eternal Flame near the "Three Bayonets," as the main memorial of the regional center is popularly called.
The profession of defenders of the Motherland is not easy, but vitally important. People in uniform stand at the borders of the state, protecting the peace of civilians. History shows that it is they who take the first blow and become a strong barrier in the path of the enemy. It was they who defended the independence of "Siniokaya" (Belarus) during the Great Patriotic War and distinguished themselves with honor in hot spots.
Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Aleksandr Subbotin considers this day one of the most important. "Defender of the Fatherland Day is not a day off, but everyone will celebrate it, congratulate men, give them gifts. This holiday is very important, it is special for every defender of our Belarus. On this day, the significance of the military profession is especially felt. I want to wish our defenders health and peaceful work. It is a great happiness when there is something to defend and someone to defend," the head of the region noted.
