Alexander Subbotin: The main lessons of the Great Victory are lessons of cohesion and unity of peoples

The current generation must not forget what happened during the Great Patriotic War, and the main lessons of the history of the Great Victory are lessons of cohesion and unity of different peoples. This was stated at a solemn rally at the "Proryv" (Breakthrough) memorial complex in Ushachi district by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin.

The regional patriotic event "Proryv Pobedy" (Breakthrough of Victory) was dedicated to the 78th anniversary of the breakthrough of the enemy blockade by partisans of the Polotsk-Lepel zone during the Great Patriotic War in the Ushachi district. Representatives of various professions and generations gathered at a place significant for the region and all of Belarus, and guests from the Pskov and Smolensk regions of the Russian Federation also arrived. "This event is a step towards a new culture of memory about the Great Patriotic War. Traditionally, on this day, delegations from all districts come to 'Proryv' from all over the region to pay tribute to those who defended the freedom and independence of our Motherland and brought closer our common Victory. Such traditions strengthen public consciousness and serve to preserve historical truth," emphasized the head of the region.

He also recalled that the breakthrough of the Polotsk-Lepel zone was one of the three largest military operations that changed the course of military history. And such events should be of great importance for the current generation as an example of boundless courage. "The main lessons of the Great Victory are the lessons of cohesion and unity of peoples in confronting violence and enslavement. We will never forget the cruelty, inhumanity, and atrocities of the enemy on our land. We remember this, and in this lies our strength," noted Alexander Subbotin.

It is important to pass on the relay of memory to the youth also so that no destructive forces can influence the youth from outside, distort our truth and rewrite our genetic code, believes the chairman of the regional executive committee. "The 'Breakthrough' Memorial Complex is a place of glory, sorrow, a symbol of unity. It is a reminder of our past, and we have something to be proud of. The blood of winners flows in our veins, and no one can take that away," Alexander Subbotin expressed his point of view.
