Alexander Subbotin at the rally: it is important not to allow the connection of times to be broken

To the Belarusians living today, to the new generations, it is important not to let the connection of times be broken. This was stated at a rally at the central military burial ground on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Liozno from the Nazi invaders by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin.

Liozno region is a special place on the map of our Motherland, as it was one of the first regions from which the liberation of Belarus began in 1943, noted the head of the northern region. According to him, with these festive events in the Vitebsk region, a relay of significant events dedicated to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the region's liberation is being launched.

The Great Patriotic War became a severe trial for the Belarusian people, but the horrors of the cruel bloody days could not break their will to live in a free and independent country. The resilience and heroism of Soviet soldiers and the civilian population in the fight against the occupiers paved the way to the Great Victory.

"The memory of those who died on the front lines and civilians tortured by the occupiers is a pain in our hearts. Thousands of soldiers, sons of different peoples of the former Soviet Union, liberated the Liozno region. More than 32 thousand of them remained forever in this land. To this day, search parties find new burials of fallen heroes, and establish their names. The active army, the front, the rear, the Danukalov and "Liozno" partisan brigades - natives of the Liozno region fought everywhere. Five of them - Ivan Avekov, Timofey Garnov, Ignat Matskevich, Sergey Cherepnev, Ivan Yanushkovsky were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union. And two - Viktor Landychenko and Petr Savutin became full Cavaliers of the Order of Glory. Almost 2 thousand were awarded combat orders and medals," said Alexander Subbotin.

He expressed great gratitude to the veterans, all generations of workers of the Liozno land for their contribution to the development of the region. "A great deal of work is being done in the region to perpetuate the memory of heroes. It is very important now not to allow the connection of times to be broken, the heroic traditions to dry up. By recognizing and respecting the feats of the older generation, preserving the memory of the past, we are raising true patriots, defenders of our native land," concluded the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

Liozno is celebrating the 80th anniversary of its liberation from the Nazi invaders. During the Great Patriotic War, the urban-type settlement became the first district center of the Vitebsk region to be liberated from the enemy by the Red Army. The breakthrough of the fortified positions of the German occupiers was achieved on October 8, 1943, and fierce battles for this land continued until October 10.
