Alexander Subbotin on the Vitebsk region's agro-industrial complex: evolution is gradual but continuous

Александр Субботин об АПК Витебской области: эволюционирование идет постепенно, но без остановки
Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin at the experimental fields in Alexandria, which the Head of State visited today, told reporters about the state of affairs in the agriculture of the Vitebsk region, as well as about the progress of the reform in the region's agro-industrial complex.

– Spring field work is completed, and fodder procurement is underway, – the governor noted. – Of course, as a northern province, we entered this process later than everyone else, but nevertheless, we have already laid more than 10 percent of fodder for the next season. We are preparing for the main event – the harvest campaign. We are repairing equipment, preparing vehicles, and training machine operators. The work is intensive.

According to Alexander Subbotin, the Vitebsk region plans to increase last year's performance this season:

– At least to reach a million tons of grain and procure a one-and-a-half-year supply of fodder. We expect to increase due to the fact that this year we managed to accumulate and apply twice as much fertilizer. In addition, we focused on the technological aspects of processes: chemical weeding, treatments, and top dressing. This is the reserve that will allow us to get a larger harvest. The emphasis is also on more productive winter crops, which we have sown on 40 thousand hectares more. It so happened that they are more productive. We have drawn up a schedule for harvesting certain crops in order to ensure a more uniform load on the combines.

Separately, at the request of an sb.by correspondent, Alexander Subbotin commented on the region's agro-industrial complex. He noted that this process is quite inertial, that evolution is gradual, but continuous:

–Options are being considered. Starting from what to do with small farms that work poorly and negatively affect statistics, how to improve them, and ending with a production and processing program. We must focus on high-margin products. Those that are currently in demand on the market.
