Alexander Subbotin: Vitebsk region will actively enter the harvest in one to one and a half weeks
During a republican conference call, reporting to the Head of State on the progress of harvesting and the quality of equipment preparation for the harvest, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin announced the timelines – the farms of the Vitebsk region will broadly enter the harvesting campaign in about a week and a half.
– Currently, only 24 combine harvesters are not yet repaired. They will be operational by July 24–26. Other equipment is also ready, which is confirmed by the passed technical inspection, – Alexander Subbotin reported. – 78 percent of all combine harvesters have received technical inspection. Half of those not yet permitted to work cannot get the "go-ahead" due to overdue leasing. We are actively making payments now. These units will also go to the fields by July 26.
The head of the Vitebsk region reported: slightly more than 300 hectares of winter wheat have already been harvested in the region. About 900 tons of grain have been threshed. The yield is approximately 29 centners per hectare. Winter barley yielded 26 centners per hectare – 76 percent of the areas have been harvested. Slightly more than 25 thousand tons of grain have been collected.
Alexander Subbotin reported that the grain growers are also monitoring the ripeness of winter rapeseed – combine harvesters have already entered areas where it is possible.
– The yield is 16.4 centners per hectare – approximately at last year's level. The total harvest area in the Vitebsk region is about 310 thousand hectares of grain crops and 64 thousand hectares of cruciferous crops.
All 200 grain drying complexes in the Vitebsk region are fully ready, and the only one currently under repair will be operational tomorrow.
According to the head of the region, everything is in order with personnel as well. Including those who will be sent to assist the grain growers. Specialists from the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Emergency Situations will also traditionally take part in the harvest.
– The people of Vitebsk are настроены on fruitful work during the harvest, – Alexander Subbotin assured the President. – In parallel, we have already begun to actively lay the foundation for next year's harvest. The winter crop area will be 30 thousand hectares larger than last year's, and the sown area will increase by 50 thousand.
A noteworthy point: the head of the Vitebsk region named the number of equipment restored almost from scrap metal – 38 combineand over 100 tractors, which have replenished the fleet.
As for fodder harvesting, Vitebsk region currently has 7.7 fodder units per conventional head. The first mowing was completed on time, but its peculiarity is that almost a third more grasses were harvested, while their yield is half that of last year. Nevertheless, according to the calculations of the farmers, the measures taken will allow for fodder harvesting no less than in the previous year. Special "road maps" have been developed in the districts to eliminate the consequences of the drought, which has been unprecedented in recent years.
