An Alley of Olympic Glory will appear in Vitebsk
July 30, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. The names of prominent athletes from the Vitebsk region will be immortalized on the Alley of Olympic Glory and in the Regional Sports Hall of Fame. The project is being implemented by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus representative office in the Vitebsk region with the support of the regional executive committee and the city executive committee, Viktor Bynkov, executive director of the representative office, told a BELTA correspondent.
The Alley of Olympic Glory will be laid in the regional center on the site near the Central Sports Complex, the largest sports facility in the region. Its main element will be 18 stylized personal medals of Vitebsk athletes who became champions and prize-winners of the Olympic Games in different years. "These personalities are the pride of the Vitebsk region, we must know and remember their merits in the development of the sports movement in the region," emphasized Viktor Bynkov. When designing the alley, "blank spots" are also provided for placing the personal medals of future Vitebsk Olympians. The decorative design of the alley will be made of modern materials using Olympic symbols.
The issue of organizing excursions along the Alley of Olympic Glory is currently being worked out, which will also include a visit to the Regional Sports Hall of Fame. It will also be located in the Central Sports Complex. Its exhibits will be dedicated to the history of sports development in the Vitebsk region and the Olympic movement, and will tell about the participation of Vitebsk athletes in the Olympic Games and the achievements of Vitebsk athletes who, although they did not become Olympic medalists, made a significant contribution to the development and popularization of sports, noted Viktor Bynkov. When visiting the hall, one can also learn in general about sports, about the activities of the National Olympic Committee and its regional representative office. The design of the hall and the information presented will be selected in such a way as to primarily interest children and teenagers, foster an interest in sports in the younger generation, a need for physical education, and also develop Olympic education.
The opening of the Alley of Olympic Glory and the Regional Sports Hall of Fame is planned for the fourth quarter of this year. -0-
