The Alley of Border Glory Opened in Polotsk District
The decision to create the monument was made by the command of the border guard detachment as a tribute to the border guards who exemplified selfless devotion to the Motherland, becoming a model of courage and loyalty to the oath, their people, and military duty. The construction of the "Alley of Border Glory" memorial was carried out from June to October. Sculptor Oleg Shevkunov worked on the monument. Anatoly Lappo, Deputy Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus, participated in the events dedicated to the opening of the memorial. He emphasized that the "Alley of Border Glory" is a symbol of gratitude for military valor and a tribute to the fallen defenders of the Fatherland. Vladislav Bruev, Head of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment, expressed his conviction that all participants in the solemn event were united by feelings of patriotism and pride in their belonging to the defenders of the forefront of the Motherland. "Every border guard present at the event undoubtedly felt a high personal responsibility for guarding the border," said Vladislav Bruev.
The "Alley of Border Glory" features a sculptural exposition and 13 stands with the names of Belarusian border guard heroes. At the center of the exposition is a shield symbolizing the reliable defense of the state borders, to the left is a border post depicting the coat of arms of the USSR and the coat of arms of Belarus, and to the right is a bas-relief showing border guards of different generations with a battle banner. It is noteworthy that bricks specially brought from the Brest Fortress are included in the memorial composition. The memory of the border guards who met the enemy in June 1941 at the border, as well as the border guard heroes after whom outposts are named, was honored by those present with a minute of silence. Military personnel, veterans of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment, and representatives of the church participated in the event.
