A Walk of Fame featuring World War II-era equipment has appeared in Vitebsk

May 3, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A Walk of Fame featuring World War II-era equipment has appeared in Vitebsk, Alexander Sidorenko, head of the department for youth affairs and defense-mobilization work of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, told a BELTA correspondent.

The Walk of Fame is located to the right of the monument to the Soviet Army soldiers, partisans, and underground fighters and is part of the ensemble of Victory Park. Instead of trees, its main decoration is equipment and artillery pieces from the Great Patriotic War: a howitzer, mortar and anti-aircraft guns, a T-34 tank, and a SU-100 self-propelled gun. In total, the open-air exhibition features 13 exhibits collected from all regions of the country. Their search began in 2009.

Noting the value of the presented artillery, Alexander Sidorenko emphasized that each piece, along with the soldiers, went through all the years of the war and has its own interesting history. For example, the famous 1940 model T-34 came to Vitebsk from the Lepel district, where in 1990 it was installed in the village of Zaslonovo on the territory of a military unit in honor of the tank crews who died in the war. Information with the most striking moments of the biographies and technical characteristics of all "iron veterans" will be placed on plaques near each exhibit.

The exhibition will be permanent. Its grand opening is timed to coincide with the opening of the renovated Victory Square, which will take place on the eve of May 9. -0-
