An alley with a new arch on Kirova Street was opened in Vitebsk
The boulevard, which appeared in the regional center in the mid-20th century, has retained features of the past era. This was the idea of those who worked on its reconstruction. The updated alley has harmoniously blended into the architectural ensemble of the street, which is included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values.
An entrance arch with decorative bas-reliefs depicting the Order of the Red Banner of Labour and a fragment of the Decree awarding it to the city of Vitebsk has appeared on the side of the railway station. Paving slabs, lampposts, benches, and bins have been replaced.
In addition to the bust of the Soviet party leader Sergei Kirov, after whom the street and alley are named, a new park sculptural composition "The Couple" has been installed, dedicated to the youth of the 1950s. Its author, Vitebsk artist Sergei Sotnikov, shared an episode. When the sculpture was being installed, an elderly local resident approached him and said that he recognized himself in the guy with the guitar.
– He said he used to sit on this bench and play for his beloved girl, – Sergei Sotnikov said.
Many residents of the houses came out onto their balconies and looked out of their windows to see the celebration on their street. It was organized by young artists who came with easels, musicians who settled on benches, and artists on stilts who strolled along the paths of the alley.
Guests who came to "Dazhynki" from different parts of the Vitebsk region shared their impressions of the renovated old boulevard, which built a bridge of memory from the past to the present century.
