Avenues of Glory laid in Vitebsk as part of the republican subbotnik (UPDATED)
During the republican subbotnik, the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko, the leadership of the region, Vitebsk, the administration of the Pervomaisky district, together with the city residents, laid a commemorative sign and an Alley of Glory in the 1000th Anniversary Park in Vitebsk in honor of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.
Behind the Sports Palace, machinery worked from early morning, leveling the territory of the future alley. Following this, employees of PlissaStroy LLC compacted the base for the paving slabs and immediately laid them. Employees of the regional and city executive committees, the tax service of the Pervomaisky district, representatives of veteran organizations, and Vitebsk residents were tidying up and reinforcing the banks of the reservoir with stones. About 200 people were working. Many came to the subbotnik with their children. Five-year-old Arina held a trowel to plant thuja trees with her mother.
– I often walk in this park with my daughter. We are very glad that it is being improved. Now we will watch our planted trees grow, – said tax employee Inna Korban.
A brief safety briefing – and the parliament speaker, heads of the region and the city, get to work. Vladimir Andreichenko shared his experience of planting trees: for them to take root well, the roots of the seedlings should be placed in the hole on a mound of black soil.
In an interview with journalists, Vladimir Pavlovich noted that he visits his small homeland with special feelings. His childhood, youth, and entire working life, except for two years of military service, were spent in the Vitebsk region. That is why the words "Wherever you are, whoever you are, remember where you come from" are so close to him. The subbotnik is not a one-time event, but an established tradition that unites people.
– Only through diligent work, solving economic issues, improving people's well-being, and defending sovereignty can the security of the state be ensured. This was also stated by the President in his Address to the Belarusian people. In the Year of Small Motherland and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, the duty of every Belarusian is to preserve and protect what was won by fathers and grandfathers, – emphasized Vladimir Andreichenko.
After a couple of hours of work, the Alley of Glory was clearly visible. Along the wide pedestrian path (the future boulevard), spherical green thuja trees were planted on both sides, followed by lindens, and in the last row – maples. "Zelentkhoz" employees prepared 600 selected saplings for planting. According to Valentina Shendyukova, Deputy Director for Production, they will definitely take root because they are planted with love, and the "Zelentkhoz" employees will help them.
– Among the beautiful places for Vitebsk residents to relax, the 1000th Anniversary Park will occupy a worthy place, – noted Viktor Nikolaikin, Chairman of the City Executive Committee. – The landscaping was preceded by meticulous work by designers, land surveyors, and geodesists, as there are many underground utilities on the vast territory of 19 hectares, and we did not want to waste money and effort.
It is symbolic that the Alley of Glory is laid in the 1000th Anniversary Park, which will become a center of attraction for vacationers and city guests. The length of the pedestrian paths throughout the park will be four kilometers, and a bicycle path is provided.
To prevent vandalism, we will install video surveillance. Playgrounds, benches, gazebos, flower beds, a fountain, and even a small amphitheater where cultural events will be held – all this is in the near future.
By the way, 355 thousand people worked at various facilities in the region during the subbotnik. The earned over 860 thousand rubles will be used to restore memorial sites, military burials, historical and cultural values, prepare camps for the summer season, and improve urban areas and settlements.
