The Prosecutor General reported to the head of state on the work of law enforcement agencies in the first half of 2011. Special attention was paid to the state of affairs in the crime-prone sphere. Thus, in the first half of the year, the number of crimes decreased by almost 14% compared to the same period last year. The number of particularly serious crimes, robberies, burglaries, and hooliganism has significantly decreased. The number of crimes among minors has decreased by 18%. As Grigory Vasilievich noted, this positive trend was achieved thanks to the joint work of law enforcement agencies and local authorities.
Another important aspect is the work on explaining the current legislation among citizens and in work collectives. Alexander Lukashenko noted that in this area, the heads of a number of republican bodies that deal with legal support and implementation of law are not working effectively enough and are not active enough in the media.
The problem of an increase in cases of driving while intoxicated was discussed as a separate issue. The number of drivers who were brought to criminal responsibility for drunk driving increased by more than 20% in the first half of the year. The President instructed to find more effective measures of responsibility for driving while intoxicated in the near future to ensure greater road safety.-0-
