A. Lukashenko demands intensive work and efficiency from the government
September 1, Minsk / Tatiana Polezhay - BELTA /. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko demands hard work and efficiency from the government, and also believes that he was not wrong to criticize its work not so long ago. The head of state stated this today, answering a question from a BELTA correspondent.
"Today they are spreading rumors that the government will be dismissed, the government will resign, and everyone who is in the government today will run for president. As for the presidency - you are welcome. Any citizen of Belarus can go, collect signatures, run for president. No one forbids anyone. Now is the time when this can be done openly," said the Belarusian leader.
Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that by criticizing the government, he does not absolve himself of responsibility. "I am not going to curry favor with anyone: neither with the government, nor with the security forces, nor with anyone. I am the President, I have the powers defined by the Constitution, I must exercise them, not promote myself and cover up some problems, including before the elections," he noted. "Before the elections, one must work harder and run even faster than yesterday. If this government does - especially," the head of state believes. - "We need results. If there are no results, I don't need such a government. Whatever it may be."
The President added: "For 15 years, I have been criticizing all those who are working poorly from my point of view. Do I have the right to do so? I do. Moreover, I am obliged to do so."
Alexander Lukashenko once again emphasized that he has never shirked responsibility. "In everything that happens badly in our country, I am to blame. I head the power vertical in the country and bear responsibility for it," he said. "And the people should hold me accountable now. After the elections, if they leave me as President and I want it, then I will hold others accountable: my subordinates, government members, and where necessary, I will make the people do what is needed." "And now let them evaluate me and draw their own conclusions," he added. -0-
