An episcopal hotel will appear in Polotsk
April 8, Polotsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Archaeological excavations at 12th-century sites will be museumified, and monastery workshops and an episcopal hotel will be built in Polotsk to create tourist infrastructure. The concept for the development of tourist infrastructure in the historical districts of Polotsk was presented today to the participants of the Interdepartmental Expert and Coordination Council for Tourism under the Council of Ministers of Belarus (IEXCS) by the Chairman of the Polotsk City Executive Committee, Alexander Poznyak, BELTA correspondent reports.
In accordance with the plan, it is proposed to develop three territories in Polotsk: the Upper Castle, the "Ostrov" settlement, and the adjacent territory of the Spaso-Yefrosinievsky Monastery. Thus, in the area adjacent to the former Upper Castle, it is planned to museumify the archaeological ruins of 12th-century temple buildings and the castle's defensive structures. A hotel and the Polotsk Center for History and Archaeology are also planned to be located here.
The museumified archaeological remains of the 12th-century Monastery of St. John the Baptist and the creative workshops of local artisans could become the calling card of the "Ostrov" settlement. According to the concept's authors, most of the entertainment infrastructure will be located here: restaurants, cafes, and attractions.
Speaking about the development of the territory adjacent to the Spaso-Yefrosinievsky Monastery, Alexander Poznyak noted that a spiritual and educational center will appear here. In addition, it is planned to build monastery workshops, a mill with a bakery, and hotels for pilgrims. A unique VIP hotel, an episcopal hotel, will also be built here.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, Chairman of the IEXCS Anatoly Tozik, the concept for the development of Polotsk's tourist infrastructure deserves attention, but a project is needed, for the development of which specialists, historians, archaeologists, clergy, and the city's public should be invited. -0-
