Vitebsk region emergency services have begun training to eliminate the consequences of bad weather

Emergency repair services of the Vitebsk region have begun training exercises to eliminate possible emergency situations and the consequences of adverse weather conditions, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by Marina Fando, press secretary of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The training exercises are conducted to check and practice the interaction of committees, departments, and organizations of the region in case of emergencies due to a sharp drop in temperature and heavy snowfall. Information flow within the unified duty and dispatch service system is also being practiced, and the procedure for informing the public about the developing situation is being checked. The results of the training exercises will be summarized on December 12.

As Marina Fando reported, an extraordinary meeting of the Emergency Situations Commission under the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee was held on the eve, at which the issue of the readiness of services, local executive and administrative bodies of power to work in difficult weather conditions was considered. The measures taken to organize the preparation of the national economy for operation in the autumn-winter period of 2012/2013 allow the committees and departments of the regional executive committee, local executive and administrative bodies, and organizations of the region to ensure the functioning of communications and life support facilities for the population in a normal mode, and in case of emergency situations, their elimination in the shortest possible time.

At the meeting of the regional emergency situations commission, it was instructed that the Department of Housing and Communal Services of the Regional Executive Committee, UP "Vitebskoblgaz", RUP "Vitebskenergo", UP "Vitebskobldorstroy", RUP "Vitebskavtodor", city and district executive committees ensure the reliable operation of emergency repair services, heat and electricity supply sources and systems, as well as the prompt elimination of consequences of accidents on them, without allowing disruption of the operation of energy supply systems and engineering support of residential buildings, industrial and administrative buildings and structures, social sphere facilities and life support; ensure fire safety of facilities, and the possibility of access to settlements and sources of fire water supply in extreme situations.

In addition, the region will adjust joint snow removal plans in each settlement, involving forces and resources from other organizations, as well as unemployed citizens for these purposes.
