Vitebsk officials' cars will yield to wedding processions

December 5, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A street will appear in Vitebsk that only wedding corteges will be able to drive on, even official cars will be banned from it. Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets informed journalists about these plans today, a BELTA correspondent reports. In the coming month, a small street of Gogol, leading to the building of the regional executive committee, will become pedestrian. And then official cars will have to drive up to the building from the other side, but the authorities intend to make an exception for wedding corteges. After all, the territory near the building of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, an architectural monument of the 19th century, is a favorite place for photo sessions of Vitebsk newlyweds. The preserved natural relief, successfully complemented by noble marble finishes and forging, combined with a magnificent view of the historical monuments of the ancient city and the Summer Amphitheater, creates a beautiful backdrop for romantic wedding photos and videos. Young mothers with strollers and elderly couples also like to walk in this place, and in the evening, the benches near the observation deck are occupied by lovers. Gogol Street will become the second pedestrian street in the regional center. This year, the historical Suvorov Street, which runs near the city hall, also became pedestrian. The chairman of the regional executive committee noted that the memory of historical and cultural figures associated with the history of Vitebsk region and Belarus is not yet sufficiently immortalized in the regional center. "We must definitely have streets named in honor of our famous countrymen, it is necessary to create monuments to Princess Olga, Prince Algirdas - the founder and organizer of Vitebsk," he believes. -0-
