Bikers will deliver the "Canvas of Liberation" to Polotsk on July 3rd
More than 20 bikers will deliver the "Canvas of Liberation" to Polotsk on July 3, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by Valentina Vlasenko, chief specialist of the department of ideological work, culture and youth affairs of the Polotsk District Executive Committee.
The "Canvas of Liberation" features the main sites of the district's military glory, the names of liberation heroes, and memorial complexes.
"During the district patriotic event 'Let us bow our heads before your feat…', bikers, to whose motorcycles parts of the 'Canvas of Liberation' will be attached, will start simultaneously from five entry roads. The motorcyclists will meet at the roundabout near the tank installed on a pedestal and, forming a single column, will head to the monument to the 23 Guardsmen-Grigoryevtsy. Students of vocational and secondary specialized educational institutions of Polotsk and Polotsk district, who will take part in the solemn ceremony of laying flowers at the memorial site, will join the bikers at the monument," said Valentina Vlasenko.
As a tribute to the guardsmen who heroically gave their lives for the freedom, independence, and peaceful future of the Fatherland, balloons with paper cranes will be released into the sky. Poems and songs of the war years will be performed near the monument. After the event, a motorcycle exhibition will be organized in the center of Polotsk.
The monument to the 23 Guardsmen-Grigoryevtsy, which is a sculptural composition – an obelisk with a marble slab and a stele with cranes, was erected in Polotsk in 1989 in memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War. On July 3, 1944, 22 guardsmen of the 158th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 51st Guards Rifle Division, under the command of Lieutenant A.M. Grigoryev, defended the bridge over the Western Dvina at the cost of their lives and held the captured bridgehead until the arrival of Soviet troops. The youth active of Polotsk and Polotsk district holds patriotic events at the monument annually.
