Belarus is pursuing a course towards maximum democratization and openness of the electoral process - Nikolai Lozovik
Belarus is pursuing a course towards maximum democratization and openness of the electoral process. This was announced by the Secretary of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums of the Republic of Belarus, Nikolai Lozovik.
Speaking about the specifics of the current election campaign, Nikolai Lozovik noted that the current parliamentary elections will be held under amended electoral legislation and with a focus on implementing the recommendations of international organizations, primarily the OSCE.
"We have set a course for maximum democratization and openness of the electoral process. This directive has been given to election organizers in all regions. And in this context, I must commend the Vitebsk region. Here, the organizers have set an example of how to work to remove unnecessary restrictions and prohibitions. The fewer prohibitions, the freer the initiative group members, campaigners, and candidates for deputy can work," said the CEC Secretary.
Nikolai Lozovik explained that the region earned such high praise right at the start of the election campaign - at the stage of forming territorial and district election commissions. "In the Vitebsk region, this process went flawlessly because all candidacies proposed for the commissions were discussed, and a rating vote was held. Regardless of the party affiliation of the proposed candidates, those individuals who received more votes from the executive committee members and the presidium of the regional council were included in the commissions. I hope that the subsequent stages of the election campaign, especially the formation of precinct election commissions, will also be conducted in a similarly democratic and open manner," emphasized the CEC Secretary.
Yesterday, an training seminar for chairpersons and members of the regional and district election commissions was held in Vitebsk. Nikolai Lozovik drew the attention of his colleagues to the innovations and specifics of the election campaign and presented a collection of methodological materials.
