Belarus will begin inviting international observers after the registration of presidential candidates - Ermoshina

Belarus will begin inviting international observers after the registration of presidential candidates. This was announced to journalists by the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission, Lidiya Yarmoshyna.

Commenting on the meeting held with the head of state, where, among other things, the organization of elections was discussed, Lidiya Yarmoshyna noted that this event was traditional. According to her, during the election campaign, there are always issues that require solutions at the highest level.

"One of the issues discussed at the meeting was the observation of elections by foreign organizations and international experts. This is our usual practice: all elections in the country are held under extensive international observation," the Chairperson of the CEC cited as an example. "An algorithm of actions for inviting international observers is being developed. It was decided that as the epidemiological situation in the country improves, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will send appropriate invitations to international organizations that traditionally observe our elections: these are the OSCE ODIHR and the CIS. However, this will happen, I think, after the completion of the presidential candidate registration process. I hope that by this time the epidemiological situation will improve."

The meeting also discussed the work of the information center, which is traditionally created on election day at the Palace of the Republic, and the provision of practical assistance to the Central Election Commission: the commission will need additional staff to organize work with citizens' appeals. Representatives of the parliament and the National Center for Legislation and Legal Research will provide assistance here.

In addition, according to Lidiya Yarmoshyna, Alexander Lukashenko instructed the CEC to work as carefully as possible so that the signatures collected by the candidates are not invalidated due to formal circumstances. "I think such measures will contribute to all electoral preferences being taken into account during the registration of presidential candidates and, naturally, on election day," said the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission.

As reported, Head of State Alexander Lukashenko held a meeting on current socio-political issues on June 10. One of the main topics of the meeting was organizational issues of the election campaign. "I would like to discuss issues that Lidia Mikhailovna may have before the start of the most acute period of registration and campaigning of future presidential candidates," the President said. He noted that this meeting is traditional: "We have always considered the problems we will have to solve and the issues of providing assistance to the Central Election Commission."
