Belavtodor reached an agreement on attracting foreign investment in the second half of 2010
November 27, Dokshytsy District / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Toll roads in Belarus may appear on the condition of their reconstruction and compliance with the first category parameters. This was announced to a BELTA correspondent by Anatoly Lyutin, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications - Director of the Belavtodor Department. He took part in a working meeting on the development of the urban settlement of Begoml in Dokshytsy District.
First-category roads are highways with four lanes, and only in this case is it possible to charge a toll, the interlocutor explained. According to him, the reconstruction of the M5 Minsk-Gomel highway is currently underway with considerable intensity, which can meet the first category requirements. "If we attract financial resources from the World Bank for the reconstruction of this road, for which there is an agreement and a Memorandum has been signed, then a toll road may appear," Anatoly Lyutin said.
Speaking about the preliminary results of the department's work this year, the deputy minister emphasized that the biggest problem for Belavtodor this year is the low volume of funding. The capacities of enterprises in the road sector and contracting organizations allow for performing work two to three times more, he explained. Attracting foreign investment would provide an opportunity to increase funding and, consequently, increase the volume of work. In the second half of 2010, such an opportunity will appear thanks to the World Bank, one of the most realistic investors, the interlocutor added. -0-
