Belarusian biathletes, including Irina Krivko, a native of Senno, won the relay at the 2018 Olympics
Congratulations from Nikolai Sherstnev and Vladimir Terentyev to the members of the national biathlon team and the mother of Olympic champion Irina Krivko, a native of Senno >>
The race began in difficult weather conditions: it was snowing, and the wind was strengthening. The starter of the Belarusian team, Nadezhda Skardino, completed the first shooting without misses, and used two additional cartridges on the second. At the finish of the first leg, the Belarusians were 46.2 seconds behind the leaders and were tenth. Then Irina Krivko joined the competition. In two visits to the shooting range, she needed only one additional cartridge. During the course, Irina also did not experience major problems and managed to bring the team into the top five. At the finish, the Belarusian team was 20.8 seconds behind the leader.
Dinara Alimbekova's Olympic debut in the relay was a complete success. Ignoring the weather and the resistance of famous rivals, Dinara skillfully paced herself over the distance. For shooting, she needed a total of three additional cartridges. She did not incur any penalty laps, and Alimbekova left the last firing line of her leg in first place, but handed over the baton in fourth (+17.1 sec). The leader of the Belarusian team, Darya Domracheva, soon took the lead. She only needed the main magazine to close all the targets at the first shooting. But at the standing position, Darya made the fans worry a lot. Three of the athlete's shots missed the target. But the additional cartridges allowed her to correct the situation. Upon leaving the firing range, Domracheva maintained the lead. None of her rivals caught up with her before the finish.
The winning time of the Belarusian biathletes was 1 hour 12 minutes 03.4 seconds (without penalty laps, 9 additional cartridges). Moreover, Darya Domracheva showed the best skiing speed on her leg.
The second place in the women's relay was taken by Swedes Linn Persson, Mona Brorsson, Anna Magnusson and Hanna Oeberg (+10.7 sec.; no misses, 12 spare rounds). The third place was finished by Frenchwomen Anais Chevalier, Marie Dorin-Habert, Justine Braisaz, Anais Bescond (+17.6 sec.; 0+14).
