Belarusian cardiac surgeons have mastered aortic transplant surgeries

January 5, Minsk / Olga Shvaiko - BELTA /. Belarusian cardiac surgeons have mastered aortic transplantation surgeries. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Deputy Director of the RSPC "Cardiology" for Surgery, Professor Vyacheslav Yanushko. According to him, such transplantations have not been performed in Belarus before. Four such operations have already been performed. "All of them were successful," noted Vyacheslav Yanushko. He added that after such transplantations, if the patient recovers successfully after surgery, they can be discharged from the hospital in 10 days. Vyacheslav Yanushko explained that, as a rule, such transplantations are necessary when, after prosthetics of an aortic segment, the prosthesis is rejected by the body and infection occurs. This is fraught with internal bleeding and death. A patient's life can be saved by transplanting the affected aortic segment. "The need in Belarus per year is approximately 100-150 such transplantations," said Vyacheslav Yanushko. -0-
