Belarusian scientists make a significant contribution to the development of interaction between scientific schools of the CIS countries - expert
May 26, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. Belarusian scientists are making a significant contribution to the preservation and development of interaction among the scientific community and scientific schools of the CIS countries. This opinion was expressed in a conversation with a BELTA correspondent by Vladimir Betekhtin, Chairman of the Interstate Coordination Council for Physics of Strength and Plasticity of Materials (ICC) of the CIS countries, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor at the Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute (Saint Petersburg). He is taking part in the international symposium "Advanced Materials and Technologies," which opened today at the Vitebsk State Technological University.
According to him, the development of science as a whole is impossible without the communication of scientists and the interaction of those scientific schools that have been developing for decades. The preservation of such ties and the development of a unified information space between scientific institutions is the main goal of the Interstate Coordination Council for Physics of Strength and Plasticity of Materials, established in 1992. Belarusian specialists also take an active part in its work.
"Such conferences are very useful, as the exchange of views and information about the work done by colleagues stimulates research by the forum participants," said Vladimir Betekhtin. He added that a serious school in the field of materials science and new materials has been established in Vitebsk, and scientists, including young specialists, are working there, which means traditions are being preserved, and this is very important.
About 100 leading scientists and specialists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Moldova, and Poland are participating in the traditional scientific forum. The symposium will present the results of theoretical and experimental research on the influence of high-energy impacts on the strength and plasticity of materials, and it is planned to consider the most relevant areas of materials science and condensed matter physics.
The majority of the reports are devoted to research that has both scientific and practical significance. Of considerable interest are studies of nanostructured and submicrocrystalline metals obtained by intense plastic deformation, in which low-temperature anomalies of grain boundary diffusion have been discovered. One of the new developments will be presented by the Institute of Technical Acoustics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus – a technology for restoring parts by gas-dynamic spraying, which is already used at Belarusian aircraft repair enterprises. This technology allows applying coatings of metals, alloys, powder mixtures, including with non-metals, polymers, to products made of metals and dielectrics, including ceramics and glass. Alloys developed by scientists for the restoration of ancient organs, and technologies for creating new materials for use in medicine will also be presented at the symposium.
The organizers of the symposium, which will conclude on May 29, are the Institute of Technical Acoustics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Vitebsk State Technological University, with the support of the Interstate Coordination Council for Physics of Strength and Plasticity of Materials of the CIS countries. -0-
