Belarusian prodigies won six medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad in Germany
July 20, Minsk / Yulia Vanina - BELTA /. Belarusian prodigies have won six medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Natalia Gorovaya, consultant of the general secondary education department of the Ministry of Education.
According to her, Belarusian whiz kids are taking part in the 50th International Mathematical Olympiad, which is being held from July 10-22 in Bremen (Germany).
It has already become known that Artem Toestev, an 11th-grade student of the Lyceum of BSU, has won a gold medal at these prestigious competitions. Svetlana Ovchinnikova, an 11th-grade student of Gymnasium No. 8 in Vitebsk, and Alexey Voydelevich, an 11th-grade student of Gymnasium No. 29 in Minsk, as well as Polina Khudyakoava, a ninth-grader from Secondary School No. 41 in Minsk, and Sergey Dovgal, a ninth-grader from Gymnasium No. 8 in Vitebsk, are one step behind him. Artem Govorov, an 11th-grade student of Gymnasium No. 1 in Rechytsa, won a bronze medal.
As Natalia Gorovaya noted, the success of the ninth-graders is very pleasing. "These guys have already shown that they were chosen for a reason. In addition, they still have the opportunity to improve their knowledge and further maintain the prestige of Belarusian mathematical science," the interlocutor emphasized. She also said that Svetlana Ovchinnikova has repeatedly defended the honor of Belarus at such prestigious competitions. Thus, in 2007 she won bronze, and in 2008 - silver. This is not the first award of this level in Alexey Voydelevich's collection either: in 2008, the young mathematician brought a bronze medal to the Belarusian team. -0-
