The Belarusian Musical Theatre opened the 28th concert season of the Polotsk Saint Sophia Cathedral
October 11, Minsk /BelTA/. The Belarusian State Academic Musical Theatre opened the 28th concert season of the Polotsk Saint Sophia Cathedral, the theatre informed BelTA.
The concert hall of the famous Saint Sophia Cathedral, with a capacity of three hundred seats, has hosted the best musicians of Belarus and the world in different years. Despite the fact that many artists of the musical theatre have repeatedly performed for Polotsk music lovers, the evening of October 8, marking the opening of the new concert season, was special for both the audience and the artists themselves. This is because for the first time, a symphony orchestra performed under the cathedral's vaults, presenting a new concert program composed of the best operetta classics - polkas by Johann Strauss and Neapolitan songs.
The gala concert featured People's Artist of Belarus Natalia Gaida, laureates and diploma winners of international competitions Margarita Alexandrovich, Lesya Lyut, Vasily Mingalev, and artists Lidiya Kuzmitskaya, Denis Nemtsov, Evgeny Ermakov, Anton Zayanchkovsky, Anatoly Olekh. The program was prepared taking into account the wishes of the Polotsk audience by musical director and conductor Yuri Galyas, as well as director Anna Motorna.
The music of operetta classics Johann Strauss, Imre Kálmán, and Franz Lehár sounded brighter than ever in the unique acoustics of the Saint Sophia Cathedral, creating a sense of flight. The audience particularly warmly received Natalia Gaida, who performed her signature numbers - the aria of Camargo from Charles Lecocq's operetta "The Green Island," as well as Alexandra's song from Imre Kálmán's operetta "The Circus Princess."
Polotsk, the cradle of Belarusian history and culture, became the first city in the country where the musical theatre's new concert program, titled "The Magical World of Operetta," was presented. Gala concerts will also be held in other cities of the republic. The next tour is scheduled for November 16 (Kobryn). -0-
