The Belarusian Women's Union congratulated the female residents of the Vitebsk region who gave birth on Mother's Day
Yuri Derkach, Galina Zhelanova, and the chief physician of the regional maternity hospital, Elena Leonovich, congratulate the mothers
Among those who received gifts, as well as handmade cards made by women from the Vitebsk city organization, on such a wonderful occasion, was Anastasia Kordova. She is visiting here for the second time from Senno to give birth to a daughter. The arrival of the baby became the most important event for the family – they had been dreaming for seven years that their elder daughter would have a sister.
– It is especially pleasant that now we will have a triple celebration – Mother's Day, the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God, and our daughter's birthday, – shares the young woman with joy. By the way, the significant date also determined the girl's name – Maria, in honor of the Mother of God.
The other new mothers were not overlooked either.

In addition to the region's residents, several Russian women became mothers in the regional maternity hospital during these days, and some of them are giving birth in Vitebsk for the first time. For example, Tatyana Venchugova came to Belarus from the Pskov region for her first child; the birth of her long-awaited daughter Eva is an extremely responsible moment for their family, so they approached the choice of a medical institution with particular care. The couple had heard about the level of medicine in the border region, which is why they preferred Vitebsk.
– If we decide to have a second child, we will come to you again, – promises Tatyana.
The high level of obstetric and gynecological care in the Vitebsk region is also confirmed by statistics: for many years, there has been no maternal mortality in the region, the infant mortality rate does not exceed 2.5 ppm, and in Orsha, for example, it is zero.
The multi-level system with the creation of perinatal centers has contributed to improving the quality of medical care for pregnant women and newborns. These centers concentrate modern technologies, equipment, and highly qualified personnel, enabling them to handle the most severe cases (there are five such maternity hospitals in the region – three in Vitebsk, one each in Orsha and Novopolotsk).
– Over time, in districts where fewer than 100-150 births per year occur, only emergency care will be provided to pregnant women, and childbirth assistance, if the situation requires it and is not related to timely labor, – says Yuri Nikolaevich.
For example, patients with pregnancy complications from Dubrovno are sent to give birth in Orsha, and women in labor from Senno come to the regional center. Ultimately, the obstetric and gynecological service of the entire region will operate on this principle.
The organization of such a multi-level system of medical care and the implementation of the State Program "People's Health and Demographic Security of the Republic of Belarus" allow for the creation of necessary conditions for mother and child.
– Birth rate is an indicator that determines the future of the state. The more healthy children are born, the more opportunities there are to realize plans for the socio-economic development of the regions and the republic as a whole in the future. It is no coincidence that the first subprogram of the state program on demographic security concerns motherhood and childhood, – concludes Yuri Derkach.
