Belarusians will always remember and honor the feat of the Soviet people – Nikolai Sherstnev
Belarusians will always remember and honor the feat of the Soviet people. This was stated today by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, speaking at a ceremonial meeting dedicated to Victory Day.
"No matter how many years have passed since the victorious May of 1945, Belarusians will always remember and honor the majestic feat of the Soviet people, the courage and heroism of soldiers and officers, women and children - all who fought and worked without sparing themselves, bringing this Great Day closer," emphasized the chairman of the regional executive committee, addressing the participants of the meeting.
The unparalleled courage and resilience of the defenders of the Brest Fortress, the feats of front-line soldiers, partisans, and underground fighters, who fought for every inch of their native land at the cost of incredible efforts and under the most difficult conditions, have forever entered history.
Many people keep military awards, folded front-line letters, and yellowed photographs among their priceless family relics. "From them, fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers from the 1940s look at us. Each has their own story of feat and victory. Many of them remained forever young, having died on the battlefields. Therefore, the unparalleled feat of soldiers, partisans, underground fighters, home front workers, and all who fought bravely and resiliently for the freedom and independence of our state will never be forgotten," is convinced Nikolai Sherstnev.
The Great Patriotic War became an unprecedented tragedy for the entire Belarusian people, but it did not break their spirit. "Now, 73 years after 1945, the events of the Great Victory appear more profound and majestic. Undoubtedly, the emotional, moral, and spiritual charge of the victorious generation, its focus on creation, peace, love for life, native land, and the Fatherland are the foundation on which modern Belarus is built," noted the head of the region.
Nikolai Sherstnev pointed out that the authorities, with a sense of deep gratitude, are doing everything possible to ensure that veterans live in peace and prosperity. Social, domestic, and psychological assistance is provided through territorial centers for social services for the population.
which are open in all regions. Work is constantly being done to perpetuate the memory of heroes and to improve burial sites. Youth and public associations actively participate in the implementation of the state program to perpetuate the memory of the Fatherland's defenders and victims of wars. This year alone, working groups of city and district executive committees have verified over 3.5 thousand names of the Fatherland's defenders. Data on 151.5 thousand defenders of the Fatherland has been entered into the electronic database of the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Hero of the Soviet Union M.F. Shmyrev. In turn, veterans actively work in public organizations, sharing their memories with young people."The defense of the Motherland is a sacred duty of all. We are bequeathed to protect our land, to work for the benefit of our people, to carry the banner of the Great Victory with honor and pride through the years. It is our duty to preserve the truth about the Great Patriotic War, about the feat of the Soviet people, to give a worthy rebuff to neo-fascism that is raising its head. And also to confidently hold the victorious height set by the generation of liberators, to work for the sake of the present and the future," concluded Nikolai Sherstnev.
Earlier, at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the head of the region held a traditional meeting with veterans and war participants, where he personally communicated with living witnesses of historical events and congratulated them on the Great Victory Day.
