Białowieża bisons settled in the Verkhnedvinsk district
Under an agreement with the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, 10 individuals are to be relocated to the northern region of the country. Eight have already arrived at their new location – the Krasny Bor hunting estate, including both males and females. To allow the wisent to adapt to the unfamiliar conditions, they have been placed in an enclosure measuring 80 hectares. Gamekeepers will care for the animals, feeding them oats and hay. After two years, the relocated wisent will be released into the wild.
However, as noted at the hunting estate, wisent once lived in the northern part of our country long ago. This was also confirmed by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, which the Interсервис enterprise consulted before purchasing the animals. Only with scientific justification and permission in hand did they decide to revive the once-existing micro-population. However, whether the Belovezhskaya wisent will like their new location now, only time will tell.
It is worth noting that the Krasny Bor hunting estate is located on the lands of the Verkhnedvinsk and Rossony districts and covers an area of 58.6 thousand hectares. It is popular with guests not only from Belarus but also from near and far abroad. Currently, life is being revived in the villages adjacent to the estate's territory, which have fallen victim to urbanization, and tourist infrastructure is being built. Representatives of the hunting estate hope that this will further attract tourists' attention to the beautiful region of the Dzvina River.
