"The white angel with black wings" arrived at the Orsha prison

The first performance of the play "White Angel with Black Wings" was held at correctional colony No. 8 in Orsha as part of the implementation of a grant from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, implemented by the UN Development Programme in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Belarus. This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the GF grant. Reducing the risk of HIV infection spread among prisoners is one of the grant's focus areas. Prevention primarily involves informing about the problem, and the play allowed the necessary information to be conveyed through the prism of emotions and empathy for the characters. The engaging plot, sense of humor, and professional acting ensured the audience's attention to the issue of AIDS throughout the performance, which undoubtedly enhances the preventive effect compared to a traditional thematic lecture. The performance at correctional colony No. 8 was the hundredth for the actors of the Republican Theater of Belarusian Drama. The play tells about joy and sorrow, the search for spiritual warmth, but above all, about choosing one's destiny. According to Vladimir Khrol, Deputy Head of the Colony for the Correctional Process, the play is relevant not only in terms of HIV prevention but also as a method of educational work. "I approve of any spiritual influence on convicts," noted Father Alexander, the rector of the prison church. "I have been serving here for fifteen years, but this is the first time a professional theater has visited us. Of course, we use art for spiritual education: we show films, not only religious ones, but simply good films, without blood and fights, as is fashionable now. I would like the audience to take away a piece of warmth from those on stage. It is clear that one play will not lead souls to the light. But with God's help, we will try to make these people want to live a real life." The actors of the Republican Theater of Belarusian Drama admitted that they were pleased with the audience's reaction.
