The Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve is ready to share the secrets of its protected lakes with tourists

June 3, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve is ready to share the secrets of its protected lakes with tourists. A new water tourist route by kayak has been opened through its territory, the reserve told a BELTA correspondent. The 35 km route will run through the places of the Valdai glacier's retreat - four naturally formed lakes: Olshitsa, known for its unique coastal vegetation, Plavno, which is a watershed of the Baltic and Black Seas, Manets, inhabited by rare river dwellers, and Domzheritskoye - the most famous and popular among tourists. Tourists will paddle along the Buzianka River and a small section of the once actively used Serguch Canal. Along the way, travelers will be able to see an osprey nest and beaver lodges, learn about the history of the lakes, their inhabitants, get acquainted with carved sculptures in the Nivki tract, and try a real tourist lunch. Ecotourism is one of the main areas of the reserve's production activities. Last year, the reserve was visited by more than 30,000 people, including 1,500 foreign guests. The revenue from tourism activities for 2009 amounted to Br1.5 billion, including Br115.8 million from excursion services. -0-
