A birch alley was laid near the '5th Regiment' memorial in Vitebsk
From the proposal of deputies of the regional and city Soviets to its implementation took literally a day. And here is the result: 30 birch trees appeared near the obelisk in memory of the victims of the fascist death camp. They were planted by representatives of the authorities, public organizations, and Vitebsk residents of different generations. In addition, on the eve of the International Day of the Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps, cleaning was traditionally carried out here, and crosses and obelisks were painted at the burial sites of the fallen. And next week, the organizational group will discuss further actions for the improvement of the memorial.
The general opinion of the event participants was expressed by the head of the Vitebsk region's deputy corps, Vladimir Terentyev: "May this event in a holy place serve as a call for the residents of the region to join a noble cause – the greening of cities and villages. So that they become even more beautiful, turning into a garden. The task is to plant about 50 thousand seedlings in the settlements of the region during the current season alone."
