The PSU Library was the first in Belarus to receive the STB ISO 9001-2009 Quality Management System certificate

September 21, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The scientific library of Polotsk State University (PSU) was the first among the scientific libraries of Belarus to receive certificates for compliance with the quality management system STB ISO 9001-2009 in the National System of Conformity Assessment of the Republic of Belarus and the requirements of DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 in the German accreditation system. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by its director Irina Dubko-Pivnitskaya. When developing and implementing the quality management system in the scientific library, all eight principles of quality management were applied, but the main attention was paid to the principle of a process approach, which allows considering all technological processes of the library in interaction. This approach made it possible to ensure the high quality of information and library services provided, taking into account the users' needs as much as possible, as well as to work in a unified documentation system, effectively manage processes, and train and improve the qualifications of library staff, the interlocutor emphasized. The scientific library of PSU widely uses modern technologies and, along with traditional library departments such as "Circulation Desk" and "Reading Room," has opened the "Electronic Library" department. Now, distance learning students do not need to travel to Polotsk to borrow books from the collections. To do this, they only need to have Internet access, log into the electronic library catalog, find and order the necessary publication. Within 24 hours, an electronic version of the book or journal will be sent to their email address. The library has a "paperless order territory" which allows the reader not to copy the publication details from the catalog to help find it, but to mark the required literature directly in the electronic catalog and receive it in one of the departments. The university actively cooperates with foreign universities, and its library is a member of the non-profit partnership association of regional library consortia "ARBIKON," which includes over 200 scientific libraries of universities in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine. Membership in this association gives the library the opportunity to introduce its readers to more than 1.2 thousand scientific journals that supplement the collections of library consortia. The scientific library of PSU serves over 20 thousand users annually. Its collections number over 480 thousand books and periodicals, and taking into account electronic versions and databases, the collection numbers 1.5 billion storage units. -0-
