B. Komorowski flew to his homeland from Vitebsk after the celebrations in Moscow
May 10, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Words of gratitude to the Belarusian state for understanding and support in connection with the tragedy near Smolensk were again voiced at the Vitebsk airport by officials of the Republic of Poland. Late in the evening of May 9, a delegation led by the Speaker of the Sejm, acting President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski, flew from Vitebsk to their homeland, reports a BELTA correspondent.
The Polish delegation took part in the celebrations on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Victory in Moscow, and after that went to Smolensk to honor the memory of those who died in the plane crash on April 10. It was decided to fly home from the territory of Belarus - from Vitebsk airport, explained the interim charge d'affaires of the Republic of Poland in the Republic of Belarus, Witold Jurasz, to journalists.
The Belarusian side created all conditions for the reception and organization of the departure of the Polish delegation. "I can only repeat what our acting president, Speaker Bronisław Komorowski, told the governor of the Vitebsk region today: 'We are grateful, very grateful.' This is not the first time such help has been provided. On the day the disaster happened, a plane of our prime minister landed at the same airport. We also received help and all possible assistance then. We think that sometimes the Belarusian side goes beyond its own rules to help us. Thank you," Witold Jurasz sincerely thanked. In his opinion, it is very symbolic that on the day of the Victory celebration, three fraternal peoples once again supported each other.
The Belarusian side provided the Polish delegation, which included about 60 people, including Wojciech Jaruzelski, Andrzej Wajda, high-ranking state officials, public figures, and journalists, with comfortable buses and cars, which, accompanied by traffic police and ambulance cars, delivered them from the border of the Russian Federation to Vitebsk. Customs and border procedures at the airport were maximally simplified and took less than an hour. During this time, the guests had time to rest, and meals were organized for them.
Vitebsk Airport, despite it being a day off, operated normally. According to the head of the Vitebsk branch of RUP "Belaeronavigatsiya" Sergey Ruris, this is not the first time the airport has received aircraft carrying specially protected persons, so the specialists' actions were well-coordinated and carried out in accordance with instructions. -0-
