More than 100 aerial bombs discovered at a construction site in Vitebsk

May 12, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A large ammunition depot was discovered at a construction site in Vitebsk, the military unit 5524 of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus told a BELTA correspondent. While preparing a foundation pit for the construction of a facility on Chkalov Street, builders found several aerial bombs from the Great Patriotic War. During the inspection of the hazardous area, sappers from military unit 5524 discovered another 114 aerial bombs and 159 fuses for them. The demining group employees had to visit this construction site more than once, the unit noted. Since the beginning of March, they have been here more than five times, discovering a total of over 300 aerial bombs. Presumably, during the war years, an airfield with infrastructure and ammunition depots was located in this place. This is evidenced by the fact that some of the discovered shells were stored in boxes. All ammunition has been neutralized. -0-
